VOLUNTEER!
Volunteering is part of what makes Portland such a unique community and we're proud to be partnering with Hands on Portland to provide volunteer support for this event. 80 volunteers are needed throughout the couse for a wide variety of positions. Your support ensures a successful ride raising funds to support Hands on Portland.

Volunteers positions with an * get a free ride, free shirt and access to the gourmet finish line dinner.

All other volunteers get a t-shirt and access to the dinner.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:

Packet Pickup/Pre Ride Check In FULL! PLEASE CHOOSE A DIFFERENT POSITION.
WHAT YOU GET:
You get a free shirt and entry into the ride, as well as the gourmet finish line dinner.
WHAT MAKES THIS POSITION COOL:
See the excitement as riders get ready for their big day.  You also get your volunteering out of the way so you can ride (if you want) the next day!
DETAILS:
Help riders check in a day early so they don't have to wait in line on Sunday morning. You'll help set out t-shirts, check in riders, register riders and more. It's all very straight forward and we'll provide a training.

 

COURSE MARKING
WHAT YOU GET:
You get a free ride and entry into the gourmet dinner when you volunteer for this advanced position! If you are not interested in riding, we'll get you a free goodie bag (coffee and beer if you are of age) and a t-shirt.


WHAT MAKES THIS POSITION COOL:
Get to see the route and beautiful parts of Portland. The volunteers who helped with this in 2007 had a great time and loved getting a free ride as a result of their assistance.

DETAILS:
Help mark the course on Saturday (exact hours to be determined) by driving around with staff. Hang arrows, paint street markings and generally install the signage necessary to help riders follow their way on course. YOU DO NOT NEED A CAR to volunteer for this position.



SET UP + REGISTRATION
WHAT YOU GET:
Volunteers who help at this shift will get a free ride, t-shirt and continental breakfast.


WHAT MAKES THIS POSITION COOL:
See the event come together as we transform an open plaza into a a huge event. Watch hoards of anxious, excited riders arrive. It's nice an early so you have the rest of the day free. The breakfast is yummy too!

DETAILS:
Help hang banners, erect canopies, unload the truck, set up tables and chairs, check in riders, give information, set out food, empty garbage cans and other necessary tasks to get the event rolling.
We have seated and standing, lifting and non-lifting projects available for shy or outgoing people.



DINNER PREPARATION + STAFFING
WHAT YOU GET:
Volunteers who help at this shift will get a free t-shirt, goody bag and snacks.

WHAT MAKES THIS POSITION COOL:
Whether you like to play Martha Stewart or you just like to be helpful, you'll find this to be a fun position as you help us get ready for a gourmet dinner under the guidance of our excellent caterer (he loves working our events). Watch a surge or riders return hungry and appreciative of your efforts.

DETAILS:
Help our caterer with the layout of food, arrangement of bowls, placement of garbage cans and other tasks necessary to get ready to serve dinner to over 2,00 people. You will also help serve dinner, clear plates, empty garbage cans, distribute goody bags, answer questions and sell t-shirts as well as other tasks as needed
.

FINISH LINE - SHIFT ONE
WHAT YOU GET:
Volunteers who help at this shift will get a free t-shirt, snacks and a goody bag. See our front page for details on the great stuff in the generous goody bag!

WHAT MAKES THIS POSITION COOL:
Cheer riders over the finish line and help fuel them after a long day! Listen to their stories from the course and watch them spread out all over the grass.

DETAILS:
You help serve dinner, clear plates, empty garbage cans, distribute goody bags, answer questions and sell t-shirts as well as other tasks as needed.
We have seated and standing, lifting and non-lifting projects available for shy or outgoing people.


FINISH LINE - SHIFT TWO
WHAT YOU GET:
Volunteers who help at this shift will get a free t-shirt, snacks and a goody bag. You may also ride the 25 or 50 mile routes. See below for details. See our front page for details on the great stuff in the generous goody bag!

WHAT MAKES THIS POSITION COOL:

DETAILS:
You help serve dinner, clear plates, empty garbage cans, distribute goody bags, answer questions, sell t-shirts, pack up supplies, load the truck, break down equipment and help with general clean up as well as other tasks as needed.
We have seated and standing, lifting and non-lifting projects available for shy or outgoing people.

ABOUT RIDING:
This is an extremely important position! We are depending on you to help us close down the event and send the rider off well.  We need you to be available exactly at 4:00, so you are restricted to riding only the 25 or 50 mile routes - even if you're a strong rider.  Thanks for your understanding, thanks for signing up to volunteer, and enjoy the ride!!



MEDICAL RIDERS
You get a free ride, a goody bag and entry into the gourmet dinner! To sign up for this position, you must hjave current CPR training and bring a cell phone and your own medical supplies kit. We will link you up with a team of medical riders who have extensive experience on bicycle rides and they can tell you more. We will provide a medical rider vest for you to wear.
Meet by the Info Tent. We'll gather all medical riders together so you know who else is on course.

RIDE ALONG MECHANICS
You get a free ride and entry into the gourmet dinner!
Ride along mechanics must have advanced mechanical skills and be able to do on-the-spot basic repair. Mechanics bring their own basic tool kit, a cell phone and are proactive about providing support on course. We will provide a mechanic vest for you to wear on course so you are recognized as a mechanic. Meet by the Info Tent. We'll gather all medical riders together so you know who else is on course. You must have a cell phone.

REST STOPS
WHAT YOU GET:
You get a free t-shirt and snacks.


WHAT MAKES THIS POSITION COOL:
Get to see the route and beautiful parts of Portland while you refuel riders (who will be most appreciative of what you are providing).

DETAILS:
Work with our partnering staff to set out food and water, clean up, serve riders, empty garbage cans and other tasks as necessary.
